Dropping prices for electricity, gas and heating oil, as well as for butter, sugar and flour, have slightly reduced inflation in Saxony. The provisional inflation rate in November was 2.2 percent, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. In October, the annual inflation rate was still at 2.1 percent.
Different development for baking ingredients
Compared to the same month of the previous year, prices for electricity, gas and heating oil fell by three to four percent, according to the statistics. In addition, butter was almost 25 percent cheaper during the Advent season, while sugar (-8.1 percent), baking powder, vanilla sugar (-6.5 percent) and flour (-4.0 percent) were also significantly cheaper.
In contrast, there were higher prices for other important baking ingredients such as cocoa powder (+26.9%), sweet almonds and shredded coconut (+19.1%), jam, marmalade and jelly (+4.3%), eggs (+3.8%) and honey (+2.7%). Non-alcoholic beverages (+6.0 percent), clothing (+0.1 percent), shoes (+1.3 percent) and games, toys and hobby goods (+3.7 percent) were also more expensive than in the same month last year.
