The IG Metall trade union warns of severe cuts for employees of the automotive development service provider IAV in Stollberg in the Ore Mountains. The Berlin-based company is not only planning to cut a further 1,500 jobs across Germany by the end of the year. There are also plans to suspend an agreed pay rise, according to IG Metall Chemnitz. "These savings are to be used to finance the job cuts. The workforce would then pay for their own job cuts."
Rally in Stollberg
The Stollberg site reportedly has around 800 employees. According to the union, an extraordinary works meeting is scheduled there this Tuesday. This will be followed by a rally.
On request, the company spoke of difficult macroeconomic conditions in view of the current market weakness, structural change in the automotive industry and comparatively high costs in Germany. With regard to planned cuts in the workforce, a spokesperson did not want to go into detail: "We ask for your understanding that we are not commenting on ongoing discussions in order to ensure a responsible coordination process with our partners."
IAV's website mentions 6,600 employees at 25 locations worldwide. They generate a turnover of 910.6 million euros (2024).
