A drunk truck driver fell asleep several times during a police check. According to the police, the 60-year-old was driving on the Autobahn 9 in Schkeuditz (district of North Saxony) on Wednesday evening and left the road. He was injured as a result.
Officers discovered the man's vehicle standing next to the road in the undergrowth. The driver was attempting to free his truck by reversing, but failed. An alcohol test carried out on the man showed a level of around 2.16 per mille. According to the police, it then emerged that the driver's card was not inserted and that there was an almost empty bottle of schnapps in the cab.
The man was then taken to hospital. The officers also confiscated his driver's license and seized the vehicle keys, according to reports. The police are investigating him for endangering road traffic.
