The ARD long-running hit "In aller Freundschaft" is to continue at least until August 2027. As announced by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the medical series will go into seasons 29 and 30 from September. MDR produces the hospital format together with ARD subsidiary Degeto. A total of 78 new episodes are to be produced, 39 per season. Previously, the seasons comprised 42 episodes.
MDR cited economic conditions and rising costs in the media industry as the reason for the cutbacks. The broadcaster has to save around 160 million euros in the contribution period from 2025 to 2028. The production of the two new seasons is subject to further committee approvals within ARD.
"In aller Freundschaft" has been airing on ARD since 1998 and is one of the most successful weekly series on German television. The series is set in a fictional hospital in Leipzig.
