The Ukrainian aviation company Antonov is building a new maintenance hangar at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The construction is underway and should be completed in the first half of 2027, said airport spokesman Uwe Schuhart. The Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper had previously reported.
The hangar will be able to park huge Antonov 124 cargo planes for maintenance work. The Ukrainians have had a maintenance base at Leipzig/Halle Airport since 2006. According to Schuhart, they have moved their entire fleet to the Saxon airport as a result of the Russian war of aggression. Six aircraft are stationed here.
The new building will be financed entirely by the future user, said Schuhart. He was unable to provide details on the amount of the investment.
The airport has concluded a leasehold contract with Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH (ALS), based in Schkeuditz. This covers an area of 24,000 square meters in the northern part of the airport. ALS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ukrainian state-owned company Antonov.
