Following the insolvency of the German subsidiaries of solar manufacturer Meyer Burger, the Chemnitz Local Court has appointed experts for the companies in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The experts from Flöther & Wissing Insolvenzverwaltung have been commissioned to prepare an expert opinion on the reasons for the insolvency, as a court spokeswoman informed upon request. A decision on provisional insolvency administration will be made in the coming days, it said.
Affected are a good 600 employees in Hohenstein-Ernstthal (Zwickau district) and Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Anhalt-Bitterfeld district). Meyer Burger, based in Switzerland, announced at the weekend that it had filed for insolvency for its German subsidiaries. The restructuring to preserve the sites had not been successful so far. The company had already discontinued module production in Freiberg last year.
Union: insolvency came as a surprise
The IG Metall trade union announced that it would fight for the employees together with the works council. "The news of the insolvency proceedings came as quite a surprise at this point in time," explained Ingo Hanemann, second authorized representative of IG Metall Chemnitz. "It is important that solar products continue to be developed and produced in Germany in the future."
