After two rear-end collisions on Thursday afternoon, the A38 is still closed. A 50-year-old man was killed and four other people were injured.
On Thursday afternoon, a traffic jam formed after a car rear-ended a hazardous goods transporter that had stopped due to traffic conditions at the Leipzig-Süd junction, according to the police. The 39-year-old driver was injured. The lane from Halle to Leipzig was closed.
Another accident then occurred at the end of the traffic jam at the Neue Harth junction. For reasons as yet unexplained, a 50-year-old truck driver rear-ended two cars. He then swerved to the right, collided with another truck and became trapped in his cab. The man died at the scene of the accident. The other truck collided with a livestock truck and three other vehicles as a result of the impact. Three people were injured in the rear-end collision.
The A38 is still fully closed in the direction of Dresden.
