500 million euros for 75 modern trains in Central Germany

The S-Bahn Central Germany fleet is getting 75 new trains. The Mireo models, which will significantly strengthen public transport in the Leipzig region from December 2026, have now been unveiled. The awarded contract is worth around 500 million euros and represents the largest order to date for the Mireo train platform from Siemens Mobility, as the company announced.

The new trains will offer 100 seats in the two-car trains, 150 seats in the three-car trains and 200 seats in the four-car trains. There is also more space for bicycles and a separate 1st class area with leather seats. There is free WiFi, a family area and barrier-free travel.
