The Lausitz Festival in East Saxony is once again offering theater, dance and music starting this weekend. One of the highlights is the solo performance of Franz Kafka's "The Trial" by actor Philipp Hochmair ("Freud", "The Manns") on September 8 in Weißwasser - director Claus Peymann had to cancel his Kafka production for health reasons.

On the evening before, the 4th movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the "Ode to Joy", whose melody has been the official European anthem since 1985, will be performed in the European city of Görlitz under the title "Freude schöner Lausitzfunken". Singing along is encouraged at the performance by the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie with international soloists and a specially formed choir.
The program also includes a staged reading by Czech author Radka Denemarková at Görlitzer Bahnhof, a concert by Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero and an exhibition of photography and paintings at the New Castle in Bad Muskau.
