The literary scene meets again in Leipzig for the book industry's spring show. The book fair was officially opened in the evening.

The Leipzig Book Fair 2025 has opened with a ceremony in Leipzig's Gewandhaus. From Thursday to Sunday, 2,040 exhibitors from 45 countries will be presenting new products at this spring of books. The motto of this year's fair is "Words move worlds".

State Minister for Culture Claudia Roth said that the Leipzig Book Fair stands for something that should apply to cultural policy as a whole: great diversity that appeals to a broad audience. She called on the new federal government to stick to the culture pass, with which 18-year-olds had recently received a budget for cultural events from the federal government.

The Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding was awarded at the opening ceremony on Wednesday evening. The Belarusian author Alherd Bacharewitsch was honored for his novel "Europe's Dogs". The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros.
