Chemnitz will bid farewell to its status as European Capital of Culture 2025 on Saturday with a mountain parade and an open-air rave. The first event in the afternoon (2 p.m.) will be an adventurous one, when - as is customary in the region - more than 1,000 people in traditional costume will parade through the city accompanied by music. The mountain parades are part of the intangible cultural heritage. In the evening (20:00), a stage at the Karl Marx Monument will look back on the Capital of Culture year under the title "Feierabend!". In addition to videos and music, a dance company from Oulu in Finland is expected to perform. Together with Trenčín in Slovakia, the city holds the title of Capital of Culture 2026.
The evening will then end with an open-air rave. From 21:00, Brückenstraße at the Marx Monument will become a dance floor. Various DJs will be playing. Those who still haven't had enough can party into the morning in several clubs in the city.
