The conductor and current Kiel General Music Director Benjamin Reiners will move to Chemnitz in the same role from 2025, where he will also be Chief Conductor of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra. The Duisburg-born conductor will succeed Guillermo Garcia Calvo and will already take on projects in Chemnitz in the coming season, the stages announced on Wednesday. "With his wide stylistic range, his wealth of ideas and his adventurous spirit, he sets brilliant accents in opera and concerts," it said.
Reiners, born in 1983, is one of the most renowned and experienced conductors and is a guest at major opera houses and concert halls. He has also enjoyed successful collaborations with artists such as violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, Nils Mönkemeyer and Hindemith Prize winner SJ Hanke. In 2023, he reportedly conducted a ballet evening in Chemnitz, which will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025.
