Around four million euros from the federal government for monuments in Saxony

The federal government is making the renovation of eleven important monuments in Saxony possible. According to the regional development ministry in Dresden, a further 4.1 million euros will flow from the corresponding special program. The Free State is contributing 3.5 million euros to finance work on the Nikolai Church, the so-called Kohlrabi Circus and the Villa Sack in Leipzig, the Herrnhut Church Hall, the Tiefenau Castle Chapel and the tracks of the railroad depot in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf.

"I am very pleased that the preservation of important Saxon cultural monuments is receiving such a large amount of federal funding," said Regional Development Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU). "Monuments are more than just stones or statues, they are a living testimony to our history and a symbol of a region's cultural identity." They create a sense of home, solidarity and identity and shape the collective memory.

With the special program, the federal government supports the preservation of monuments that are important for the national heritage. According to the ministry, it was launched for the 13th time. The Bundestag Budget Committee approved a total of around 47.5 million euros for properties nationwide, which are co-financed by the respective federal states.
