Actives, officials and fans of 24 sports clubs planted more than 10,000 trees in Saxon forests last week. At a total of five locations, more than 600 people put seedlings in the ground, as the state chancellery announced in Dresden on Wednesday. Among them were also Bundesliga teams such as RB Leipzig (soccer), the Niners Chemnitz (basketball) or the Dresdner SC (volleyball). The result was "really something to be proud of," said Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), summing up the effort. It had once again become clear "how much you can achieve as a team."

Stable mixed forests are to be created from a total of around three hectares of bare land in various regions, which were created by storms, drought and bark beetle infestation. According to the information, this will enable a carbon dioxide sequestration of almost 30 tons per year in the long term. To the tree plantings the association had called TeamSportSaxonia, the donation forest for Saxonia and the marketing initiative of the Free State "Thus goes Saxon" to the day of the forest (21. March).

Foundation managing director Henrik Lindner spoke of a "mad team achievement". In the process, everyone also dealt with the state of the forest, reported TeamSportSaxony board member Karsten Günther. "We have all learned a lot, and for us it is clear that we want to implement such an action definitely still this year another time."
