The fire department and THW used an excavator to dig their way to the lost dog for hours.

Happy end in Dresden for Mara and her owner: the fire department and the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) rescued the Belgian shepherd dog from a pipe after a major operation lasting several hours. She was stuck under a road in the Laubegast district at a depth of around two to three meters, according to the fire department.

She had escaped from her owner in the morning while changing her leash during a walk and ran into the 20-metre-long pipe. As it was not possible to access the animal from the outside, the rescue workers from the THW and fire department dug their way to the site with an excavator. They were able to free the dog from the pipe in the afternoon.

During the rescue operation, a fan blew fresh air into the pipe to ensure sufficient oxygen.
