Coughs, fevers, and runny noses—flu season is slowly starting up again in Germany. Here’s a look at the current case numbers for Saxony.

At the start of flu season, the number of respiratory illnesses in Saxony remains at a moderate level. According to a report by the Saxony State Research Institute (LUA), older adults and seniors are currently the most affected.

In total, 30 cases of influenza and 30 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saxony last week, along with 4 cases of RSV. Most of the cases were in the city of Leipzig. There were no flu-related deaths last week. Nationwide, the number of flu cases has actually decreased compared to the previous week.

Statistical tracking of influenza cases and other acute respiratory illnesses began at the end of September. During the flu season, case numbers are published weekly, according to the LUA.
