Chambers of Crafts, Industry, and Commerce in the region around Leipzig and Halle see the local economy under pressure. A joint survey shows, among other things, that expectations remain pessimistic and that investment and hiring plans are being scaled back, the chambers reported. The business climate is deteriorating, they said.
In addition, the region’s economy is being weighed down by international uncertainties, rising energy and fuel prices, and strained supply chains. “This combination significantly exacerbates the region’s existing structural challenges,” explained Sascha Gläßer, president of the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The sectors most affected include manufacturing, construction, retail, transportation, and logistics, as well as construction-related trades and trades serving commercial needs.
Economic policy measures are therefore needed to boost competitiveness, investment, and growth—such as a secure and affordable energy supply, less bureaucracy, and faster approvals.
