A 30-year-old motorcyclist has been seriously injured in an unsuccessful overtaking attempt on the A17 near Bahretal.
On Tuesday evening, the 30-year-old wanted to overtake a truck on the two-lane highway and overlooked a fast approaching car in the left lane, according to a police spokesperson. When the motorcyclist realized this, he wanted to stop overtaking, swerved and hit the back of the truck. As a result, the man crashed and was seriously injured. A rescue helicopter took him to hospital.
The lorry driver and the other car continued their journey without stopping, according to the police. Whether a hit-and-run investigation is underway has yet to be determined, a spokesperson said.
The A17 was closed in the direction of Dresden for around an hour due to the accident.
