For maintenance work on the railroad bridge over the Elbe in Riesa, passengers will have to be prepared for months of cancelled stops and timetable changes on the line between Leipzig and Dresden from mid-May. At the start and end of construction on May 18 and 19 and on July 24 and 25, the bridge will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m., as announced by Deutsche Bahn. Long-distance trains will be widely diverted during this time. The RE 50 between Leipzig and Dresden will be replaced by buses between Oschatz and Priestewitz.
Extensive work on the bridge
The extensive maintenance work is intended to ensure the long-term stability of the bridge. The work focuses on replacing the bridge sleepers on the two southern tracks due to their age. In addition, the railroad is eliminating defects in the steel structure and renewing the corrosion protection. The superstructure in the bridge area is also being modernized. To the east of the Elbe near Röderau, a construction site access road is currently being set up on the B169 in the direction of Riesa, where a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour will apply.
