Despite some challenges, Saxony's high-tech industry is experiencing steady and solid growth, according to Silicon Saxony, the industry association. Dirk Röhrborn, chairman of the board, expressed great confidence about the current mood in the industry at the 17th "Silicon Saxony Day" at Dresden Airport on Wednesday. He emphasized that the planned investments would stimulate the entire industry. Now it is up to the German and European economy to use the dynamic investments of the semiconductor industry to position itself with competitive products in international competition, he said. In particular, the medium-sized suppliers are currently strongly challenged and have a lot to do.

Future prospects and growth potential of the Saxon high-tech industry

Frank Bösenberg, the managing director of the association, shared this positive view. According to the association's current figures, about 76,100 people are currently employed in Saxony's microelectronics, IT and communications technology sector. And this figure is not yet final: Bösenberg explained that the currently available figures do not yet take into account the planned employee increases of the companies that are currently expanding their capacities and commitment in Saxony. Compared to the previous year, the industry in Saxony recorded growth of 4.2 percent. Particularly noteworthy is the software industry, which is the most dynamic industry in Saxony with a growth of 7.6 percent compared to the previous year.

Bösenberg expressed satisfaction with the development: "The location is growing in line with our expectations." In addition, the industry network expects that in 2030, about 100,000 employees in Silicon Saxony will be working on the latest developments in a variety of demanding professions. However, Saxony cannot achieve the EU's goal of quadrupling the semiconductor industry's market share in Europe on its own. Other semiconductor regions would have to be created in Germany and Europe. Therefore, Silicon Saxony also welcomes the support of U.S. chipmaker Intel in Saxony-Anhalt.
