Over the past two years, Saxony has received approximately 3.5 million euros in sponsorship. This is according to the 10th Sponsorship Report published by the Ministry of Finance. The report details the monetary contributions, in-kind donations, and services that state agencies and institutions have received from third parties. It is published every two years and is intended to ensure transparency in the handling of sponsorship.
A good two-thirds of sponsorship contributions went to culture
Approximately 2.4 million euros—or about 69 percent of all sponsorship contributions—went to the cultural sector. The total amount has increased compared to the previous reporting period. In 2022 and 2023, the total amounted to around three million euros. Financial contributions accounted for the largest share, representing 95.3 percent of the total support. In-kind contributions and services accounted for 4.7 percent.
“Sponsorship is the voluntary support of public authorities and government institutions by third parties. Sponsors pursue economic interests and, in return, receive the opportunity to promote themselves to the public, for example by having their name, company, or brand mentioned,” the report stated. Typical forms of consideration include mentioning the sponsor or displaying its logo on posters, program booklets, printed materials, or promotional materials of the sponsored institution.
