Not only companies can go bankrupt, private individuals can also become so indebted that they have to file for insolvency. In 2024, there were more in Saxony than in the previous year.

In Saxony, the number of consumer insolvencies rose in 2024. According to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz, 3,130 consumers filed for insolvency - 6.3 percent more than in 2023. Almost all proceedings were opened. Only eight were dismissed due to lack of assets, and two ended with the acceptance of a debt settlement plan.

Consumer insolvency also enables over-indebted people to make a fresh financial start. After a certain period of time, they can be released from their remaining debts in the process.
