They mainly roll through cities: e-scooters. But time and again, rides end tragically. The Ministry of the Interior takes stock of accidents.

Three people died in accidents involving e-scooters in Saxony last year. There had been no fatalities in the previous year, according to the Ministry of the Interior in Dresden. The police also recorded an increase in the number of injuries across the state.

According to the report, 201 people had accidents while riding the motorized scooters in the previous year. According to the ministry, 29 riders were seriously injured last year and 169 suffered minor injuries.

Who is allowed to ride an e-scooter

E-scooters have been permitted since 2019. Neither a driving license nor a moped test certificate are required to ride one. You can drive your own scooter from the age of 14, rental devices are only available from 18. Helmets are not compulsory, but the ADAC strongly recommends wearing one.

New rules will come into force next year. New e-scooters will have to be fitted with indicators. In addition, local authorities are to be given more leeway for parking e-scooters - to counteract "uncontrolled growth". They cause displeasure in cities in particular when they are parked on sidewalks, for example.
