Cable cut - train services disrupted in eastern Saxony

Train services between Ebersbach, Zittau and Liberec as well as Hrádek nad Nisou and Varnsdorf have been disrupted since Monday evening due to deliberate damage to the rail infrastructure. The RE 1/RB 61 and L7 lines are affected. According to the Länderbahn, unknown persons cut the fiber optic cables necessary for signal and control technology in several places. "This means that the necessary signal box is not operational."

Repairs underway - restrictions also on Wednesday

Repairs have now begun. However, as it is still unclear in how many places the cables have been cut, it is currently unclear when rail traffic can be resumed, according to the Länderbahn. It assumes that there will also be restrictions on Wednesday.

There will be replacement bus services on the Ebersbach-Zittau/Liberec line, on which the RE 2 and RB 61 lines run, so that connections can be made again. On the L7 line between Hrádek nad Nisou and Varnsdorf, two buses will run every hour from Wednesday until the end of the disruption. According to the information provided, the journey time will be extended by 15 minutes. "Trains between Liberec and Hrádek nad Nisou will run as scheduled."

According to the Federal Police, officers noticed the disruption on Monday evening and then came across damaged signal and fiber optic cables in Ebersbach. Forensic engineers are investigating the scene.
