Semiconductor manufacturer Infineon plans to open its new chip factory in Dresden at the beginning of July. "We are making very good progress with our Smart Power Fab. The team is moving fast. Construction is ahead of schedule. We will open the factory at the beginning of July," said CEO Jochen Hanebeck at the Annual General Meeting in Munich. This specifically means July 2, as confirmed by a company spokesperson. The "Sächsische Zeitung" and the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported this.
The "Smart Power Fab" is Infineon's response to the increasing demand for semiconductors for renewable energies, data centers and electromobility. According to Hanebeck, the earlier start is intended to meet the growing demand for AI chips. The production ramp-up will take place "flexibly as required".
