The Saxon FDP does not think much of the planned double budget for the Free State. It is "not a great success, but another chapter in the politics of muddling through", explained state leader Matthias Schniebel before the budget was voted on in parliament this evening. "There is a lack of vision, priorities and economic common sense." Weeks of arguing about figures had resulted in "a compromise that creates more problems than it solves."
FDP leader sees no willingness for structural reforms
Schniebel accused the government of spending money "as if there was no tomorrow". There is a lack of willingness for structural reforms. "The problems are being postponed, not solved." The actions of the government of Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) were a "blueprint for irresponsible financial policy". The victims would be the citizens of the Free State. "We don't need a budget policy with placebo effects, but courageous reforms."
The FDP has not been represented in the Saxon state parliament since 2014. In the state election on September 1, 2024, it only achieved 0.9 percent.
