The passenger association Pro Bahn has called for the introduction of a student Germany ticket as an upgrade option for Saxony. As the passenger association announced on Saturday, the new ticket should be offered as an option to the existing education ticket and, like the education ticket, should not be available exclusively as a cell phone ticket solution. The aim is to offer pupils in Saxony a cost-effective way to travel throughout Germany by bus and train. For those who do not need this option, nothing would change and this would not lead to any additional burden for families.

"It is important to us that the application process for the upgrade to the Deutschlandticket runs without unnecessary hurdles," said Markus Haubold, Chairman of the passenger association Pro Bahn Mitteldeutschland. Pupils should have the opportunity to use this option in an uncomplicated way.

The education ticket in Saxony enables pupils to use public transport in the individual transport associations and is subsidized by the Free State of Saxony. For a monthly fee of 15 euros, pupils can use buses, streetcars and regional trains around the clock. However, the ticket is currently not transferable and is sold as a subscription by the transport companies. The new "Schüler-Deutschlandticket" is intended to give pupils the opportunity to upgrade their regional education ticket to a Germany-wide ticket at a reasonable price.
