The energy company Leag has built a 17-megawatt solar park in Böhlen together with EP New Energies GmbH.

The energy company Leag has completed a photovoltaic plant in Böhlen near Leipzig. The 17-megawatt solar park near the Lippendorf power plant was developed and implemented together with the company "EP New Energies GmbH" (EPNE), Leag announced on Wednesday. "We are pleased that the area of the former IAA Böhlen experiences a particularly sustainable use," said Leag CEO Thorsten Kramer.

The commissioning of the solar park is a further contribution to the expansion of the green power supply in central Germany. "This is the basis for accelerated development of the region in the green hydrogen economy," Kramer said. He added that the further expansion of green power generation and hydrogen and storage technologies is an important prerequisite for maintaining economic strength and jobs, as well as for economic growth and the establishment of new industrial jobs.

According to Leag, 30,000 modules were installed for the new photovoltaic park. Purely arithmetically it could supply approximately 6000 households with green electricity. The 14-hectare site is the site of a former industrial settling plant for power plant ash, located directly on the site of a former open pit mine.
