Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing has denied that rail projects in Saxony are currently being postponed. The FDP politician said on Thursday on the fringes of the opening of a digital high-speed test field in Annaberg-Buchholz in the Ore Mountains that the federal government wanted to implement all planned projects in the requirements plan.
In addition to the funds planned to date, an additional 31.5 billion euros would be available for this purpose. According to Wissing, investment in the railroads is at a record level. "We have now received such record sums from the budget committee that we will see huge progress in the railroads, including in the region."
Several parties represented in the Saxon state parliament recently expressed concern about the possible postponement of rail projects in Saxony. According to media reports, in addition to the further expansion of the Saxony-Franconia main line, the second construction phase between Dresden and Berlin is also on an internal list of cuts that DB Infrago, the infrastructure division of Deutsche Bahn (DB), is said to have sent to the Supervisory Board. The background to this is the budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court. At the end of last year, the court ruled that the federal government may not set aside emergency loans for later years.
