32 Serious Workplace Accidents on Construction Sites - Occupational Safety Day

Last year, 32 serious workplace accidents occurred on construction sites in Saxony—six of which were fatal. The figures were released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Occupational Safety Day 2026. On Monday, approximately 70 representatives from companies, associations, government agencies, academia, and the field of occupational safety were set to meet to discuss, above all, safe working practices in the construction industry. The focus was on falls from heights, which were also the main focus last year. A total of 31 workers fell, 19 of them on construction sites.

Economic Minister Believes Good Planning Is the Best Protection

“On construction sites, safety and health protection must be considered from the very beginning. Every serious—and certainly every fatal—workplace accident is one too many. Especially when working at heights, good planning, clear responsibilities, and appropriate equipment can save lives,” emphasized Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter. 

Protection Against High Temperatures and UV Radiation

Another key focus is protecting workers when working outdoors. “High temperatures and increasing UV exposure require appropriate protective measures and are becoming increasingly important in light of climate change,” the statement said.

Occupational Safety Day Aims to Raise Awareness Across Industries

Occupational Safety Day takes place every two years and is considered the most important event of the Saxon Occupational Safety Administration. It is organized jointly with the Association of German Labor Inspectors. The goal is to raise awareness of effective occupational safety, discuss current developments, and promote dialogue among all stakeholders.
