For the 15th time, “Buchsommer” is encouraging young people in Saxony to read. The Radeberg City Library kicked off the event with the official opening, according to the Ministry of Culture. According to the announcement, opening ceremonies will gradually take place at additional locations throughout Saxony until the last day of school this coming Friday.
A total of 90 libraries across the state are participating. There, 11- to 16-year-olds can choose reading material for their summer vacation from a selection of current books. For every book read, they receive a stamp in their personal logbook. Anyone who has read three books by the end of summer vacation on August 14 will receive a certificate. In many libraries, “Buchsommer” concludes with a closing party where prizes can be won.
