The last vacation weekend is coming up in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. At the same time, it is vacation time in all federal states. These are the effects on the roads.

At the end of the summer vacations in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, the automobile club ADAC is warning of traffic jams. The last vacation weekend was the busiest in Saxony last year, said a spokesperson for the local ADAC. In addition, the weekend is still the vacation season in all federal states. Drivers should therefore be prepared for "full, if not overcrowded roads". Peak times are Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, added a spokesperson for ADAC Hessen-Thüringen.

If you can plan freely, it is best to switch to Wednesday, Thursday or the night. Once you are stuck in a traffic jam, you should not leave, said the spokesperson in Saxony. This only causes stress, rarely saves time and clogs up the side roads. And with a view to the warmer weather forecast, the following applies: Always have enough drinks in the car.

According to the ADAC, these are the hotspots in the federal states:

  • Thuringia: The A9 towards Berlin and the western section of the A4 are particularly affected. However, there are currently no significant highway construction sites. Major traffic jams are not to be expected, except in the event of accidents or weather events.
  • Saxony-Anhalt: Here, too, the A9 between Berlin and Halle/Leipzig is affected in both directions. The road is narrowed to two lanes between the Köselitz and Vockerode junctions. There may be delays on the A2 between Magdeburg and Braunschweig due to dismantling work on a permanent roadworks site.
  • Saxony: The A4 is the main congestion route in Saxony. It is usually particularly busy around Nossen and Dresden. The Königshainer Berge tunnel is also a bottleneck due to the current single-lane road layout. There are also smaller daily roadworks.
