New schoolyards, green squares and innovative technology: Saxony supports model projects to make cities more resilient to climate change.

The Free State of Saxony is funding four model projects for climate-resilient urban redevelopment. A total of 948,000 euros is being made available for this purpose, as announced by the State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development. Projects from Leipzig, Nossen (district of Meißen), Ottendorf-Okrilla (district of Bautzen) and Dresden were able to impress with their ideas for climate-adapted urban development.

The concepts include the redesign of a school playground in Nossen. Trees and awnings will provide shade and a flowering hedge will attract bees. In Dresden, there are plans to upgrade the forecourt of the Kulturpalast. The measures include greenery, intelligent water use and an electrically powered bio-air filter.
