Parents are sounding the alarm: in a school in eastern Saxony, ninth graders are said to have seen pornographic material during a theater project. The Ministry of Culture is investigating the allegations.

The Saxon Ministry of Education is investigating allegations made by parents regarding the use of pornographic material during a project week at a secondary school. As the ministry confirmed to the German Press Agency, the State Office for Schools and Education is currently in contact with the school in the district of Görlitz to clarify the matter.

A spokesperson for the school supervisory authority said in response to a dpa inquiry that pornographic materials were allegedly presented to pupils in a ninth grade class at the school. "Two people from an external theater project" allegedly used the images during a project week in March. These and other allegations are now being investigated together with the school management. Following complaints from parents, the school stopped the project week. The "Junge Freiheit" newspaper had previously reported on the incident.

The State Office for Schools and Education also announced that it was now investigating whether those responsible had violated the regulations of the Saxon School Act with their actions. The school management initially reacted well by stopping the project immediately. The head teacher did not wish to comment when asked by dpa and referred the matter to the Ministry of Education. According to the media report, several parents have filed criminal charges against persons unknown for distributing pornographic content to under-18s.
