Step out of the cellar: Magdeburg beats Bochum

FCM coach Petrik Sander gave winter signing Raymond Tachie his starting XI debut. Herbert Bockhorn also started for Magdeburg for the first time since matchday 2. The ex-Bochum man was the focal point early on: He was sent down the right flank, crossed from the baseline and the incoming Musonda scored to give Magdeburg an early lead. Despite being behind, Bochum stood deep and FCM did not take any major risks.

The game remained so devoid of chances until Atik received a long ball perfectly with his right and then bent it over Timo Horn into the net with his left knee. Bochum became more active after the break, standing a little taller and initiating far more attacks of their own. Hofmann took advantage of one of these to reduce the deficit, turning around FCM defender Marcus Mathisen. Magdeburg lost too many tackles in this phase and thus lost control of the game.
