Wehen Wiesbaden Signs Jochen Seitz as New Coach

Jochen Seitz is the new head coach of third-division soccer club SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The 49-year-old succeeds Daniel Scherning, who was fired last week, and has initially signed a contract with the Hesse-based club through the end of the season, with an option to extend. 

“With Jochen Seitz, we’ve been able to bring on a coach who has proven in recent years that he can successfully develop teams, stabilize them, and ensure their long-term performance,” said Wehen Wiesbaden’s sporting director, Uwe Stöver, explaining the decision. 

Seitz most recently worked for the Regionalliga club 1. FC Lok Leipzig, with whom he won the Northeast division title twice in a row but ultimately missed promotion to the 3. Liga in the relegation playoffs. Prior to that, he spent seven years—from 2016 to 2023—as head coach of Viktoria Aschaffenburg. 

Wehen Off to a Poor Start This Season

With just one win and two draws—along with four losses—SVWW sits in second-to-last place in the standings with only five points after seven matchdays. “The goal now is to develop the necessary stability by the winter break and close the gap to the middle of the table,” said Stöver.

To achieve this, Seitz is expected to develop a clear structure and game plan as quickly as possible and make the most of the team’s existing talent. “This challenge really appeals to me. Now it’s a matter of stabilizing the team step by step, developing it further as a unit, and laying the groundwork for successful results,” said the coach. 

Seitz will make his debut on the sidelines on October 2 in a friendly match between Hessen and second-division side Karlsruher SC. The first competitive match with SVWW is scheduled for October 11 against FC Ingolstadt.
