The point in Darmstadt has rekindled the fire at 1. FC Magdeburg. The installed coaching duo is to stay for the time being.

The invitations for the press conference on Thursday with interim coach Petrik Sander ahead of the home game against Preußen Münster were sent out on Monday - two days later, the 64-year-old and Pascal Ibold were given the go-ahead for further games on the sidelines.

"We are convinced that this interim solution can bear fruit. We could already feel the spirit of optimism that we wanted to create in training," said sporting director Otmar Schork after Wednesday's training session, as reported by "Bild", "everyone had their heads up. The performance in Darmstadt is also encouraging, we finally kept a clean sheet."

Instead of just the game against Westphalia, the coaching duo will also coach the team in the second DFB Cup round at Bavarian regional league club FV Illertissen next Wednesday (18:00) and in the basement clash at VfL Bochum on November 2. After that, it will be decided whether to continue working with the duo. Sander has the necessary UEFA Pro license.

"The current solution can still take a long time"

Schork himself will continue to look for suitable candidates, but in view of the points won and the current performance of the team, he seems to be happy with a longer commitment of the duo. "The current solution could last a very long time. It's right that we looked for other coaches and examined all scenarios," said the 68-year-old, "but it was important for me to give Petrik and Pascal the trust. They know the club and have done a great job over the years, so it's the logical consequence."
