The MBC inflicts Bayern Munich's fifth defeat of the season and gains some breathing space in the fight against relegation. What were the keys to success?

The basketball players of Syntainics MBC have caused a sensation in the Bundesliga. The underdogs defeated FC Bayern Munich 91:79 (42:42) in front of their home crowd and inflicted the league leaders' fifth defeat of the BBL season.

The eleventh win of the season gave the club from Weißenfels some breathing space in the battle to avoid relegation. The outstanding Charles Callison (29), Spencer Reaves (14), Jure Planinic (13), Khyri Thomas (11) and Nemanja Djurisic (10) played the biggest part in the home side's success. Only Andreas Obst (19) and Wenyen Gabriel (12) scored in double digits for Bayern.

The MBC got off to a perfect start in this duel and was 26:17 ahead in the tenth minute. However, the league leaders managed to equalize by the break. The club from Weißenfels came up trumps in the final two quarters, producing a 9:0 run from 47:44 (22') to 56:44 (24') and extending that lead to 80:59 by the 34th minute. The visitors were not able to close the gap to more than five points (80:75 in the 38th minute).

The home side benefited from its superiority under the boards (39:27 rebounds) and its far better percentage from beyond the arc. Eleven of the Central Germans' 25 attempts from beyond the arc landed in the opposing side's basket. The visitors were only able to convert eight of their 26 attempts.
