Second-division soccer club 1. FC Magdeburg will host Eintracht Braunschweig to kick off the new season. According to the schedule published by the Bundesliga (formerly the DFL), the match will take place on August 8 or 9. After that (August 14–16), coach Petrik Sander’s team will face newly promoted VfL Osnabrück.
Magdeburg will play the first of three “Eastern derbies” on Matchday 4 (September 4–6) at Hertha BSC. The match against Dynamo Dresden (October 16–18) will also be played on the road. In contrast, the FCM will have home-field advantage in the match against newly promoted FC Energie Cottbus between November 27 and 29.
They will face Bundesliga relegation side VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 14 (December 4–6) in Wolfsburg. The first half of the season will conclude between January 15 and 17 with a home game against fellow relegated team 1. FC Heidenheim.
