Second-division soccer club 1. FC Magdeburg has responded to the departure of forward Alexander Ahl-Holmström to Denmark by bringing back a familiar face to the 2. Bundesliga in Roko Simic. The Croatian is coming to the Elbe from the Welsh club Cardiff City, where he had moved from Karlsruher SC before last season. Simic is on loan for one year. The 24-year-old is expected to serve as a backup for Polish striker Mateusz Zukowski.
“Roko is a modern center forward who, with his physicality, technical skills, and goal-scoring instinct, brings many of the qualities we’ve been looking for,” said FCM sporting director Peer Jaekel in a club statement. Following Ahl-Holmström’s departure, it was clear that the club wanted to strengthen its attack once again. “We are convinced that he will enrich our offense with his skills and give us additional options in our attacking play,” said the sporting director. Simic will wear the number 9 for Magdeburg.
