Torsten Ziegner is the new head coach of the Regionalliga soccer club 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The 48-year-old was officially introduced at a press conference and signed a contract through 2028. Ziegner succeeds Jochen Seitz, who led Leipzig to the Northeast Championship in each of the past two seasons but then failed to secure promotion to the 3rd League in the relegation playoffs both times. He subsequently resigned.
“FC Lok and its successes mean that expectations are high. A mid-table finish is not part of the plan. We want to be among the top teams, even if we don’t yet know how the competition—for example, from Aue, Jena, and Halle—will line up. I have no other intention than to be successful. I will do everything to achieve that. The journey isn’t over yet,” said Ziegner.
The former professional, who played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena, FSV Zwickau, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, and the Stuttgart Kickers, among others, most recently worked as a TV analyst for Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR). His last coaching stint ended on September 16, 2023, with MSV Duisburg. Prior to that, Ziegner had coached FSV Zwickau, Halleschen FC, and Würzburger Kickers.
