Suddenly Marco Rose pricked up his ears. Just as the RB Leipzig coach was walking through the catacombs, national team player David Raum was asked about his absence on the touchline. "How did it feel for you? Was it quieter? Was it more relaxed?" Raum was asked by a journalist. Rose had had to serve a yellow card in the Bundesliga on Saturday and therefore only watched the game at 1. FC Heidenheim (2:1) from the stands.
Raum's answer naturally interested the 47-year-old. So he stopped and repeated the question of whether it had been quieter and more relaxed on the touchline - causing amusement from all sides. "It was good," said full-back Raum diplomatically, adding: "I'm coming off a yellow card myself, now the coach has served his. He still prepared us well during the week." According to Raum, Rose's assistants Alexander Zickler and Marco Kurth "did a great job" of deputizing for the head coach during the game. In general, there is a "nice community" at RB, which feels "like a second family".
Rose himself was able to live with the situation overall, but does not want to get used to a place so far away from the pitch. "It wasn't that unpleasant to watch. I had my peace and quiet and very pleasant people around me," he said. However, he would have preferred to be somewhere else from the moment Heidenheim equalized in the 69th minute at the latest. "I brought it on myself and will try not to let it get that far again," explained Rose. But at least he was allowed to speak to his team during the half-time break.
