Andreas Toba will not compete in the all-around at the European Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig at the end of his career. As national coach Jens Milbradt announced, Timo Eder (Ludwigsburg) and Nils Dunkel (Halle/Saale) will compete in the six-event qualification on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Toba, on the other hand, will only compete on three apparatus in the qualification for the team final. "I expect a reasonable performance from myself," said the Hanoverian.
Toba had announced that he would end his international career after the home European Championships. Immediately afterwards, he will become the national coach at the national base in Hanover.
In addition to Toba, Eder and Dunkel, Milan Hosseini (Böckingen) and Dario Sissakis (Berlin) are part of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) squad that wants to qualify for the team final on Thursday.
Women's team with a "new generation"
Federal coach Gerben Wiersma is sending a young team to the women's competition, just like last year at the European Championships in Rimini. The team will be led by 17-year-old Helen Kevric from Stuttgart, who finished eighth in the all-around and sixth on the uneven bars at the 2024 Olympic Games. Karina Schönmaier, Lea Quaas (both Chemnitz), Janoah Müller (Haßloch) and Silja Stöhr (Heddesheim) are also part of the DTB squad. "I am proud to present the new generation," said Wiersma.
