Goal festival against Leipzig: Freiburg remains international

Ouedraogo scores a remarkable goal

Two of this season's shooting stars opened the scoring. The Ivorian Yan Diomande, who was again very eye-catching at times, missed the first chance for Leipzig (2nd), while the young Swiss midfield strategist Johan Manzambi scored for Freiburg (4th).

The hosts then struck twice: first Beste dusted off a Ginter cross from close range to make it 1-0, and around two minutes later Matanovic headed in a Manzambi cross to make it 2-0.

However, Leipzig did not let themselves down. Ouedraogo brought RB back into the game with a spectacular low shot into the right corner. Up until the break, it was almost exclusively the Saxons playing, but SC held on to their lead going into the break.

Höfler celebrated on his substitution

A different picture after the break: Freiburg attacked, RB defended. Ginter scored from a few meters out to make it 3:1 and once again underlined his top form. The SC defender is still hoping for a place in the German squad for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico in the summer.

The Freiburg fans also applauded him after an hour: veteran Nicolas Höfler, who will end his career after the season, was substituted in his 293rd and final Bundesliga game. Coach Julia Schuster hugged him on the touchline and the crowd celebrated him with chants.

And the party atmosphere continued. Not much more came from RB. Instead, Scherhant even increased the lead to 4:1 after Diomande lost the ball.
