The debut of this Bayern shooting star was a long time coming. Something kept getting in the way of Tom Bischof on his way to becoming an U21 international. Just under a year ago he was injured, in the summer of the European Championships he was nominated for the senior national team, then traveled with FC Bayern to the Club World Cup - and this season an appendectomy slowed him down.
Clear target for the U21 newcomer
"I assume that, if everything is in order, he will be in the starting eleven and will also pull the strings for us in the center," said U21 national coach Antonio Di Salvo ahead of the European Championship qualifier against Greece on Friday evening (18:00/ProSieben Maxx) at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld in Jena.
Bischof, who moved to FC Bayern from Hoffenheim in the summer, has made a good impression in Munich so far. Di Salvo also liked the performances of the Bundesliga player, who is now an experienced player despite only being 20 years old. Bischof was particularly impressive in the 4-0 win against Bremen, when he started in the starting eleven. He has already made a total of 60 appearances for Hoffenheim and Bayern in the Bundesliga.
