The women's handball team of Thüringer HC missed out on a place in the final of the DHB Cup in dramatic fashion. At the Final Four in Stuttgart on Saturday, the team of Head Coach Herbert Müller lost 34:36 (31:31, 16:14) to HSG Bensheim/Auerbach on seven penalties in the first semi-final. Csenge Kuczora, who had shone for the THC with eight goals in regular time, was the only scorer for both teams to fail to score.
The club from Thuringia initially found it very difficult to cope with the HSG's attacking cover and trailed 4:7 by the 13th minute. However, when Kuczora came on, the THC then developed far more penetration at the back and turned the deficit into a two-goal lead at the break.
After the break, Bensheim initially dominated with its fast-paced play and pulled 25:21 ahead in the 47th minute. However, THC stabilized again and went 31:29 in front with 102 seconds remaining. However, Rikke Hoffbeck Petersen missed the chance to decide the game in advance. National player Nina Engel put Bensheim into the seven-meter penalty throw with seven seconds remaining.
