RB Leipzig have secured Atalanta Bergamo as the highlight of their preparations for the new Bundesliga season. The Italian first division third-placed team will play the official season opener at the Red Bull Arena on August 2 (3 p.m.), as RB announced. In the days leading up to this, RB will be attending a training camp in Donaueschingen from July 22 to 30. Another test match is to be played there.
One week after the season opener, a dress rehearsal is scheduled at French first division club RC Lens before the new season kicks off the following weekend from August 15-18 with an away match at SV Sandhausen in the first main round of the DFB Cup. The first matchday of the Bundesliga will be played on the weekend of August 22-24.
This leaves Leipzig six weeks before the first league game. The obligatory performance diagnostics will begin on July 11 at the training center on Cottaweg, and three days later the yet-to-be-found head coach will ask for the first training session.
