Jonas Sterner couldn't stop grinning. With his goal in the 12th minute, the 24-year-old secured Dynamo Dresden's first win of the season against SV Darmstadt 98. And he did so even though he had taken the brunt of the criticism just a week ago in the 0-3 loss in Nuremberg.
“I’ve never faced this much criticism in my career. But I watched the game again at home and worked through it myself. The criticism was absolutely justified. That makes me all the more happy that today turned out to be a real Sunday,” said the right-back after the 1-0 victory. “It was good that he scored,” said captain Niklas Hauptmann.
“The game in Nuremberg wasn’t completely bad. That’s why it wasn’t a huge step forward for me. Defensively, there were some areas where we were much more solid,” said Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm. Regarding Sterner, he remarked: “It’s the beauty of life that some things turn out just as they’re meant to.”
