After five games without a win, Dynamo Dresden is back on the winning track. In the Eastern Derby of the 2nd Bundesliga against 1. FC Magdeburg, Thomas Stamm’s team secured a 2-0 (1-0) victory. Niklas Hauptmann (9th minute) gave Dresden the lead on a penalty kick, before Simon Straudi (50th) added another goal in front of 30,651 spectators. With this win, Dynamo moved out of the relegation zone. The start went perfectly. While attempting to clear the ball, Tobias Müller kicked Dresden’s Nicolai Rapp in the leg. It took a while for referee Robin Braun to receive the information from the video assistant referee and review the TV footage himself. He awarded a penalty kick, which Hauptmann confidently converted. That gave the hosts some initial confidence. But Magdeburg grew stronger—partly because Dynamo was content to defend its narrow lead and relied more on counterattacks in its own stadium. It wasn’t until the end of the first half that Dresden gradually regained the initiative. Dresden came out of the break strong, applied a lot of pressure, and were rewarded for it. After Magdeburg failed to clear a cross, the Italian Straudi (50') scored from twelve meters with a low shot to make it 2-0. Vincent Vermeij (68') sprinted clear after receiving a pass from his own half and could have sealed the deal, but was denied by FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann. Dynamo kept a clean sheet, their first since the second matchday. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedPenalty kick following a VAR review
