Handball champion SC Magdeburg is responding to Elvar Örn Jónsson’s announced move to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in 2027 by bringing French national team player Thibaud Briet to the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old is coming to the Elbe from French Champions League participant HBC Nantes and has signed a three-year contract.
“Thibaud is a young, dynamic player who already brings a wealth of experience at the highest level. He plays in the Champions League with Nantes, has won medals with the French national team—and his development is far from over,” said SCM head coach and sporting director Bennet Wiegert in a club statement about Briet, who is at home in the key position of left back.
Briet has been under contract with the top-tier club Nantes since 2019. After three years on the professional team of his hometown club, Rouen HB, he developed into a national team player in Nantes and made his debut for “Les Bleus” against Germany in 2022. With Nantes, Briet has won the French Cup twice, claimed the national Champions Trophy and the League Cup, and reached the Champions League Final Four twice.
